Knockout! - A Silly Penguin Battle Game | Bobo's Pick
Slip around on ice and smash penguins off the arena! You choose the angle and power, then watch the chaos unfold. Good for a quick laugh during lunch.
Knockout! is listed in our Arcade collection because it passed a basic playability review: it loads in a modern browser, explains itself quickly, and offers a clear reason to keep playing after the first attempt.

Took me a sec to figure out the controls since there's no hand-holding tutorial here. You use the Arrow Keys to aim your little penguin, which draws a line showing where you'll go. Then you tap Q or E to adjust your power up or down before you let loose. Honestly, this part bugged me at firstโI kept forgetting which key was more power and which was less, so I'd gently tap the wall instead of doing a full-speed slide. Once it clicks, though, you don't really have to think about it much. It's pretty much all you need for the whole game, which is nice when you're eating a sandwich with one hand and playing with the other.
You're basically a penguin on a frozen puddle trying to knock everyone else off the ice. It's that simple. You take turns choosing a direction and power, launching your bird across the arena like a curling stone with an attitude problem. Pulling straight from the game's description, you really are just launching your penguin to collide with opponents to stay on the ice. The vibe is super silly. It's exactly the kind of thing I load up when my brain is fried from work and I just want to watch fat birds slide into each other. If you want deep strategy or complex mechanics, you won't find it here and you'll probably get bored fast. But if you want mindless laughs with friends over chat, this hits the spot.
If you like dodging danger and fast arcade action, THE LAVA ESCAPE is a fun one to try out next.
A typical round starts with a handful of penguins standing around on a slippery frozen arena. When it's your turn, you'll see your aiming line pop up. You nudge the arrow keys until you're lined up with an opponent, mash your Q or E buttons to get the power just right, and let go. Then your penguin goes sliding. If you hit someone just right, they go flying off the edge. Miss, and you might end up sliding off yourselfโI actually knocked myself out of the ring twice in a row because I used too much power, which made me groan out loud. A full game usually takes just a few minutes, maybe five if the last two players keep missing each other. It's quick, punchy, and pretty satisfying when you finally get the angle right.
When you want something even simpler to zone out with, Space Aim Kids does the trick nicely.
Simple physics-based sliding that's easy to grasp but kinda tricky to master.
Turn-based multiplayer battles so you can play with friends without total chaos.
3D penguins wobbling around, which is pretty much the main draw here.
Fast rounds that don't drag on foreverโmost games wrap up in under five minutes.
The controls take a minute to get used to, and honestly, the lack of a tutorial is annoying.
Watching your friends mess up their aim and accidentally slide off the edge is the best part.
Don't go for max power every timeโa gentle nudge is sometimes all you need to push someone off.
Watch the angles the other players use; you can kinda predict where they'll end up.
Don't do what I did and skip looking at the arena edges. Knowing where the drops are saves lives.
If you're playing against real people, wait a second before taking your turn. Rushing always leads to bad shots.
Sometimes missing your opponent entirely is better than hitting them at a weird angle and bouncing backward off the map.
Try to stay near the center of the ice. The edges are a death trap in the later turns.
If you'd rather chill with some weird tunes after all that penguin chaos, give Sprunki Angler Durple a spin.
Common questions about Knockout!
It's tagged as mobile-friendly, but you might struggle with the controls on a small screen. The arrow keys and Q/E buttons work a lot better on a desktop setup.
There's not really a story mode or anything to save. Each match is a standalone round, so you can jump in and out whenever you want without losing anything important.
That's pretty much the best way to play it. Rounds last just a few minutes, so it's a solid pick for when you just have a quick break to kill.
You can. It's a multiplayer game, so grabbing a few friends to join the penguin brawl makes it a lot more fun than playing solo.
You're probably using too much power. Try tapping the power down a notch before you launch. It takes a few rounds to get a feel for how slippery the ice actually is.

Bobo hereโbeen playing this all week during my lunch breaks. It's a good pick for winding down because you don't need to be fully dialed in. You just take your turn, watch the penguins bounce around, and wait. If you're looking for a chilled-out game to play while you're half-watching a show, this is it. The rounds are short, so you can drop in and out without losing progress. Not gonna lie, it does get a bit repetitive after maybe half an hour. It's strictly a short-session game. But for those five or ten minutes when you're waiting for your coffee to brew or avoiding emails? It does the job. It's just dumb, lighthearted fun with no pressure.
